just updated to firefox 80 and the autohide bookmarks toolbar function is broken.

i do not like the ctrl+ method to "zoom in" on the webpage.
cause sometimes it just mess up the webpage.

to make gmail display bigger font, you need to install stylish add on for firefox browser.

after install that, you can adjust the font size as you need.
how to adjust font size:
go to firefox add-ons page. select "user styles".
on "gmail- bigger fonts", click "edit".
a window will popup.
you want to look at line 7, "font-size: 14px !important;"
change the number before "px" to 15 or 16.
don't forget to click "save".

best way to migrate from yahoo mail to gmail

i wish i have found this out earlier when i was moving all my mails from yahoo mail to gmail.

i used gmail fetch mail pop3 setting to get mails out of yahoo. but it will only import mails in inbox. which i have to separately import mails in other folders. and there is no way to get sent mails.

later i found out a much easier way. use thunderbird to copy all mails from yahoo to gmail.

you will need to install thunderbird. here:

then set up IMAP for both yahoo and gmail.

if you have several folders in yahoo, set them up the same way in gmail.

after set up both account in thunderbird, you might need to leave it alone for some time to download all your yahoo mail.

then inside thunderbird, you can select mails in any folder, right click, and mouse over to "copy to". you'll have gmail corresponded folder to select from the drop down menu.

it's a much faster way than pop3 fetch mail gmail offered. and you can keep your same folder structure.

symptom: when you try to go to a webpage, the browser warns you of a redirect by "a248.e.akamai.net".

How to fix this a248.e.akamai.net:
1) Follow instruction above by Hybrid24. This works a attested by GK Mandigo.
On a side note, I did not specifically power cycled or restarted or refreshed my router since it is quite far from our room. What I did was:
Access your router set up(192.168.x.x) and disconnect & reconnect your internet connection on the internet connection status subpage.
My router is Cisco v3.0.0.02
Our internet connection type is PPPoE.
1. Open your router set-up. for cisco linksys, this could be accessed through 192.168.1.1 or through network magic(i don’t know how though).
2. Go to STATUS PAGE.
3. On the Internet connection details portion, there is a “Login Status” indicating that you are connected and on the side, there is a “disconnect” button. Press the button and when the numbers are set to “0″, Press the “Connect” button.
4. Try facebook again. This should fix your problem without the added hassle of moving around.

then what i did was going to Start /Network / Network and Sharing Center

click on local area connection and disconnect it.

after that, reconnect the local area connection.

the a248.e.akamai.net is gone after this.

Windows 7 Aero Themes Greyed Out?

the aero themes are all greyed out on the personalize menu.

Force Enable Aero in Windows 7
1. Click on Start and type regedit at run

2. Now Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM

3. In the right details pane, create following Three DWORD (32-bit value) entry
UseMachineCheck, and set its value to 0.
Blur, and set its value to 0.
Animations, and set its value to 0.

4. Close Regedit

5. Click on Start and type CMD with administrative Priviliges

6. Now type following command
Net Stop uxsms
Net Start uxsms
Above command will stop and start Desktop Window Manager Session Manager.

7. Now you can turn on Aero by right clicking on desktop-> Personalize -> Select Windows Colors

restarted windows.
it works for now.

unable to create new library (windows 7)

symptom: when click on the "New library" button on the top of the folder, nothing happens.
also when right click on "Library" on the side bar and mouse over to "New", it says "empty" instead of "New library".

the cause is the missing of the registry code.
here is an article that describes how to fix it.

"gfxui has stopped working" on win7

i have tried most of the solution i found on google.
but i decided to just remove the display driver from intel and let it detect and install the driver by itself.

what i did was go to start, right click on 'computer'.select 'properties'.
on the window that opens, on the left pane, click 'device manager'.

open 'display adapters', it should show the display card. right click on that item and click on 'uninstall'.

windows will ask you to restart computer. do that. and when it comes back on, it will detect the display driver by itself and install it.
windows will ask you to restart again. do that.

then the intel display driver was replaced by the driver that's signed by microsoft.
i actually like it better because there's no 'intel hd graphic menu' running on startup.

UPDATE:
i have updated to the new driver, dated 11/16/2012.
after update, the message "gfxui has stopped working" popped up again.
simple go to start, in search, type 'msconfig' and enter to open up msconfig.
then click 'startup' tab to disable all intel related apps 'gfxui'. there're 3 of them.

that solved the problem.

Solution to eliminating the default SimSun font in MS Word even using Pinyin IME

this is so awesome i have to post about it.
i have been bothered with word 2010 when typing chinese, the font would automatically revert to simsum no matter what you do. no matter what setting you change.
then finally this solution came up.
thanks to the guy who figured it out.
just follow the instruction.
the logic is to change pinyin IME to another category. in my case is changing google pinyin to chinese (traditional) category.
and then the problem was solved.

If you type Chinese in MS Word 2003 using Pinyin IME, SimSun will always be the default font no matter what the current font is. Microsoft tried to be smart to set the font by detecting your IME. But I would rather use Microsoft JhengHei font in MS Word 200 by default.

The solution is to change the IME to a different language.

If you installed QQ pinyin, just search for "qqpinyin" in your registry. ( You can open it by "regedit.exe") Or you can search for "google pinyin" or something else. Then find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layouts\E0200804

The last E0200804 may be different by your IME. But last four digits 0804 stands for Chinese(PRC). 0404 stands for Chinese(Taiwan). 0409 stands for English(US). Change 0804 to 0404 or 0409. It is also possible to let the IME belong to English category and you will find something very interesting in MS word when typing.

Log off and log on. Then add your IME from the control panel. Now the pinyin IME is under the Chinese(Taiwan) category or English(US)

If you use this pinyin IME in your word, SimSun will not automatically appear.
